National Safety Council’s Advanced Safety Certificate (ASC)

This NSC Advanced Safety Certificate is a nationally recognized safety curriculum based on proven best practices. The Advanced Safety Certificate program builds upon knowledge of compliance requirements and sharpens leadership skills to drive fundamental change throughout your organization.

The ASC Curriculum for Certified Safety Professionals helps you:

  • Learn techniques for a balanced approach to safety management, addressing administrative, technical and cultural elements
  • Develop problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Develop management skills to establish yourself as a problem solver and decision maker
  • Determine when, how and to whom you should delegate safety responsibilities
  • Set safety performance measures for employees and your organization
  • Get a head start on a management plan tailored to your organization’s safety and health needs
  • Assess your organization’s safety training needs
  • Design a custom safety training program for your organization, and deliver performance-based training

How to Earn the Advanced Safety Certificate (ASC):

  1. Complete the required course – Principles of Occupational Safety and Health (POSH) – 2.6 CEU’s
  2. Select and complete any combination classes listed to earn the remaining 5.2 CEUs required!
    • Effective Safety Management Practices I – 1.3 CEUs
    • Effective Safety Management Practices II – 1.3 CEUs
    • Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene – 2.6 CEUs
    • Safety Training Methods – 2.6 CEU
    • Any 4 of these count as 1 ASC course:
      Incident Investigation – 0.65 CEUs
      Safety Inspections – 0.65 CEUs
      Ergonomics: Managing for Results – 0.65 CEUs
      Job Safety Analysis – 0.65 CEUs
      Risk Assessment Workshop – 0.65 CEUs

*All course requirements must be completed in a five-year period.
