Overview

Based on the National Safety Council's Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene technical manual, you'll develop an understanding of industrial hygiene principles and practices by examining four key processes - anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control.

  • Anatomy and physiology

  • Toxicology

  • Chemical hazards (liquids, gases, vapors and particulates)

  • Physical hazards (noise, radiation and thermal stress)

  • Ergonomics

  • Biological hazards

  • Walk through surveys

  • Air sampling techniques

  • Noise measurement

  • Ventilation and other engineering controls

  • Personal protective equipment

  • Respiratory protection

  • Safety and health programs/agencies

  • Government standards and voluntary guidelines

Interactive learning activities led by experienced facilitators, equipment demonstrations and hands-on exercises help you develop a plan for your facility.  Lectures, case studies, and demonstrations provide an intensive overview of hazard identification, evaluation and control.  Assumes little or no prior experience with industrial hygiene.  One of four courses leading to National Safety Council's Advanced Safety Certificate.
