Overview

This two day training program prepares students to be Instructors in the National Safety Council's 4-hour Defensive Driving Course.  This course is for safety managers, fleet supervisors, HR managers, corporate trainers, and driving school instructors.

DDC-4 can help your organization increase your profitability by reducing the number of insurance claims, time away from work due to injuries, and the cost of vehicle repairs. Our instructor course features updated curriculum and facilitation methods and allows the instructor to confidently adapt their teaching style to meet the unique needs and characteristics of their audience. DDC 4 offers practical strategies to reduce collision-related injuries, fatalities, and costs. It addresses the importance of attitude in preventing crashes and reinforces good driving skills. Let our experienced trainers provide you with the tools and knowledge to become an excellent trainer for your organization.

DDC 4 is a cost-effective way to ensure all your drivers develop safe, defensive driving habits and attitudes. It is a fast-paced, four-hour driver improvement program that also makes an ideal refresher course. In addition to standard road rules and regulations content, NSC’s newly revised DDC 4 5th edition offers a fresh look into contemporary driving issues that impact our behavior and safety on the road way. The 5th edition includes these expanded course topics:

  • Aggressive driving and road rage
  • Fatigue and drowsy driving
  • How driver behavior and mental conditions affect driving
  • Defensive driving techniques
  • The crash impact on passengers
  • How to avoid a collision and case study scenarios
  • Personal driving style evaluation
  • Hazard recognition and collision avoidance
  • Emotional impairment, common driving irritation and “Pet Peeves”
  • The “Fatal Four” causes of a crash
  • Driving skills inventory and assessments
  • Occupant protection laws and graduate driver’s licensing
  • Vehicle malfunctions and maintenance

DDC-4 Instructor Materials Include:

  • DDC 4 Instructor Manual
  • Teaching DDC Candidate Instructor Guide
  • DDC 4 Participant Course Guide
  • Instructor Certification Form
  • DDC 4 Certificate of Completion
  • DDC 4 Administrator Guide
  • DDC Reference Material
Because the DDC courses are nationally standardized, any organization wishing to conduct training must be approved and registered with the National Safety Council.  Training materials must be purchased and audio visual materials must be leased to maintain Training Agency status.
